 SGI has over 25 years experience in supplying pork producers with high quality semen.  We have always adhered to the highest standards in semen processing and service to our customers.  Semen is extended with SGI long life Modena extender that is recognized world wide for maintaining excellent semen viability for 5 to 10 days after collection.  A strict standard of 5.0 plus billion total sperm per dose is utilized to ensure maximum conception rate and litter size.  Each collection is closely examined for sperm quality prior to dilution and the extended semen is monitored for up to 9 days after collection to ensure high viability of each collection.  Due to this strong commitment to high standards, SGI semen is the “industry standard” for consistent superior fertility.

“DUROC CHOICE” PROGRAM

Durocs are world renown for their superior growth, feed efficiency and muscle quality.  The NPPC Genetic Evaluation Study established Durocs as the breed of choice when both performance and meat quality are combined.

Our “Duroc Choice” boars are selected from the top 10% of the breed based on their terminal sire index (TSI).    In addition to this documented performance, “Duroc Choice” boars are backed by generations of superior sires from the top U.S. performance oriented Duroc herds.   Sires of “Duroc Choice” boars are also monitored and selected for superior meat quality both through the ISU Progeny Testing Program and by slaughter of progeny groups from the breeding farms.

“Duroc Choice” boars are housed in crates on slotted floors to ensure the overall toughness and durability needed under commercial finishing conditions.  All boars complete a strict quarantine before entry and are tested every 60 days to assure their negative status for PRV, PRRS, Brucellosis and Leptospirosis.

MEAT QUALITY BOARS

SGI also has assembled a line of Duroc boars specifically selected for high intramuscular marbling.  Boars are selected either directly from the “ISU Selection Project” or are documented as “Meat Quality” boars based on their: IMF scan, pedigree and/or gene markers.
