Our Japanese customers have always preferred super tough made, heavy duty Durocs with superior natural body width. When they came in May to select a few boars to add to the SGI boar battery for semen shipment to Japan, it took only one quick look for them to decide Line 9 was a definite choice. As his picture illustrates, he is a stout and bold fronted boar that excels in boldness of shoulder, bigness of blade and expansion to his rib cage. Wide made from end to end and deep from front to rear, he truly excels in body capacity. Heavy boned, level made and very correct and agile on his feet and legs as a five year old; he is made like and as durable as a tank. An added feature of Line 9 is his excellent muscle dimension (8.09 LEA), which certainly doesn’t restrict function in any way. Limited muscle quality scores on his offspring indicate they will excel in marbling and other meat quality traits. Although selected for the Japanese market, we definitely feel Line 9 can make a very positive contribution to the US Duroc breed and commercial pork production when mated to the right sow lines.
