- Roper was the very popular 1st place class three boar at the 1997 Summer Conference. Like his sire, Franco, he is an extreme breeding piece.
- Roper truly excels in length and cleanness of front end, length of body and levelness of top and rump. At the summer conference, he and his popular littermate scanned only 0.59 and 0.54 inch BF at 305 lbs. They, along with another Franco son that stood 1st in Class One, were the longest bodied boars at the show. Franco also sired the Reserve Champion Boar at the 1997 Iowa State Fair and the Champion Gilt at the 1997 SW Conference was a full sister to Franco. Franco has consistently stamped his offspring with his extreme leanness and length of body.
- Roper has a very expressively shaped top, an extra long, very thick rump and a big dimple above his tail. His big bulging ham would definitely get the attention of any barrow show judge. Extra clean about his head and jowl region; Roper carries this extreme cleanness throughout his total body. He is also a big bladed, heavy boned boar that takes a long free stride.
- Roper is a double bred Fjord that makes one even more confident about his genetic superiority for length and leanness. When we purchased Franco at last year’s World Pork Expo, we predicted he could sire some “eye poppin: barrows as well as build big framed, long bodied Durocs.
- As reports on his offspring come in, this has certainly been true. Cut out of the same mold as his sire, Roper will surely make his mark not only in the show pig circuit but contribute to building Durocs and terminal lines that can sire market pigs with the ability to stay lean and perform to heavier weights.
