• Big Dog was the Champion and top selling boar at the Missouri State Fair.  He is a high performance, big framed, powerful made boar that is very lean throughout (0.38 BF). 
• Big Dog also has a very expressive loin and an extra, long-thick rump and a big three dimensional ham.  He is correctly designed, being extremely level topped, sound and very functional.  Big footed, heavy boned and loose structured; he should sire pigs that will have superior performance under the toughest conditions. 
• Big Dog and his littermate brother were the top and 7^th ranking boars in their contemporary group.  Big Dog is bred very similar to Wild Thing; thus, the following documentation of his powerful performance pedigree will be very similar to that of Wild Thing.  He is sired by Great Dane, the former No. 1 ranking Duroc sire for TSI.  Great Dane currently ranks 5^th for TSI, 1^st for Backfat, 1^st  for MLI and 5^th for NBA.  His son and Big Dog’s half-brother, SGI St. Bernard, ranks 2^nd for TSI and 2^nd for BF in the May 1997 Across-Herd Sire Summary.  Three other sons of Great Dane currently rank in the top 15 Duroc Sires for TSI.  One of these three, SDF5 Dave 53-3, sired the Champion Boar at the 1997 SW Conference and the Reserve Champion Boar at the 1997 Expo for Perrys. 
• On the bottom side, the sire of Big Dog’s dam, Universal, is the third ranking sire in the May 1997 Across-Herd Sire Summary for 21-day litter weight, 6^th for SPI, 8^th for Maternal Line Index, 15^th for Days to 230 lb and ranks in the top 30 for Number Born Alive and Terminal Sire Index. 
• Big Dog’s paternal great grandsires, Asset and North Star, were both formerly highly ranked in several categories of the Across-Herd Sire Summaries.  The exhibition record of Great Dane, St. Bernard and Dave’s offspring has been very impressive during the past year with several champions and numerous high placing individuals.  The Champion Boar, the $2000 Champion Gilt and the $16,500 Top Selling Duroc boar at the WPX were by Great Dane.  The Champion EPD boar at the 1997 Summer Type Conference was also a littermate to the Champion Boar at the WPX.  He had EPDs of Days –4.0, Backfat –1.10 and TSI 137.5.  In addition, the $20,000 top selling Guy Jackson Summer Type Conference boar was sired by Great Dane.  As his name implies, Big Dog is truly a “Big Dog”, not only in terms of frame size but also in terms of documented superior performance as evidenced by his remarkable TSI, MLI and SPIs of 136.0, 139.2 and 130.6 respectively.
