  • OMAR was selected from an outstanding litter of Kila farms, for many years a leading Swedish Landrace herd.  His sire, Amert, produced from semen imported from Finland, is one of the top Landrace sires in Sweden both in terms of superior performance and outstanding phenotype of his offspring.  He has one of the top breeding indexes of any Landrace boar in the Swedish AI stations at 114.  Six progeny groups sired by Amert tested in the official pig progeny test station have averaged 15 mm (0.59 in) of carcass backfat, 16 grams more daily gain than the station averaged and had an excellent feet and leg score of 2.8 out of 3.0.  The progeny test group from OMAR’s dam had only 13mm (0.51in) carcass backfat and averaged 2.1 percent more meat in their carcasses than the station average.
  •  Like his sire and dam, OMAR excels in leanness being particularly lean over his shoulders.  The offspring of his sire, Amert, were consistently the heaviest boned, widest made Landrace we observed in Sweden.
  •  OMAR is also a wide sprung, good boned boar that is wide in his chest floor and has his blades really pulled apart on top with his chine bone set well down between them.
  •  OMAR is a heavy muscled boar that is thick through his loin and rump yet is level and loose in his design.  He is very good in his feet and leg structure with large even toes front and rear.
  •  OMAR has small to medium sized ears and is very aggressive with excellent testicle size.
  •  OMAR’s dam comes from a sow family that has excelled in longevity.  He is from a litter of 13 born, 12 weaned.  His dam has a 103 index.  She and her five littermates are all sound, productive sows with excellent underlines.
  • OMAR’s maternal granddam average 11.0 born live and 9.8 weaned in her first five parities and his maternal great granddam averaged 12.6 farrowed live and 11.0 weaned in 11 parities.
  •  OMAR has consistently sired excellent performing, sound functional Landrace that have truly excelled in leanness, muscle and feed efficiency.  He sired the top indesing pen overall breeds at the New York Boar Test Station that averaged 0.53 in backfat and 130 index.  His second high indexing pen overall breeds at the Iowa Swine Test Station had the lowest feed efficiency and 2nd lowers average backfat.  A boar at the Northeast Iowa Swine Improvement Station gained 2.77 with a 6.95 LEA.
  •  We are confident OMAR can contribute by making U.S. Landrace leaner and sounder while maintaining the natural width of body, heaviness of structure, and superior sow productivity demanded of Landrace by U.S. commercial producers.
