  • SGI has been trying to obtain Lean Machine 125-2 from Walker’s for about two years.  However, Bob indicated 125-2 would never leave the farm.  Last summer Bob showed us a highly inbred Lean Machine boar.  He was the result of a littermate mating of a son and daughter of 125-2.  In addition the granddam on both sides, Miss 128-3, is a three quarter sister to Lean Machine 125-2.  We were immensely impressed not only by his tremendous muscle dimension but also his heaviness and correctness of structure.  After six months of tough negotiations, Bob finally agreed to let SGI purchase half interest in the most “UNIQUE’”  boar we have found to date.  He easily hasthe most muscle thickness of any boar of any breed at SGI; yet he is level in his design, very functional in his total body makeup, and super sound on his feet and legs.  He is a heavy structured boar with a big blade and forearm, excellent substance of bone, good foot size and a very good underline.
  •  UNIQUE is from an outstanding gilt litter of 12 farrowed, 12 weaned that was free of any genetic defects.  Walkers are using two very impressive, heavy muscled and lean littermate boars that are also super sound and functional.  They also kept all 6 littermate gilts.  Muscle and leanness is bred into UNIQUE.  Lean Machine 125-2 sired both the champion and reserve champion carcass truckloads at the 1988 National Barrow Show.  These two loads of six hogs each averaged an unbelievable 0.55 and 0.64 in of carcass 10th rib backfat, as well as 7.71 and 7.77 sq in loin eye areas at 245 and 243 lb live weight, respectively.  The meat quality scores were very good at 2.6 and 2.8.
  • UNIQUE was well worth the long wait.  First reports on UNIQUE’s offspring have been excellent.  He sired the 1st, 3rd and 4th high indexing boars at the Alabama Test Station that averaged only 0.64 inch of backfat and 2.08 feed conversion.
  •  Although our first test mating for PSS indicated that UNIQUE was not a carrier, more recent results indicate that he is a carrier of the PSS gene.
  •  He is surely a “UNIQUE” one that we would definitely recommend you try since he can positively add muscle and leanness yet maintain heaviness and correctness of structure.
