Boar Health and Management
Swine Genetics' boars go through a strict isolation and testing program before entering our center. The boars are maintained in an enclosed environmentally controlled building, accessible only to the workers who have changed clothing, disinfected boots and taken other proper sanitary precautions.Observation of boars by visitors is possible through an observation window.

Periodic testing of all boars in the center is conducted to verify that they are free of leptospirosis, brucellosis, pseudorabies (PRV), tuberculosis, PRRS and several other diseases. In addition, appropriate antibiotics are added to both liquid and frozen semen to further safeguard against possible spread of disease. SGI herd health is under the supervision of Dr. J. Kunesh of the Iowa State University Veterinary College.
